Projects related to the construction of dams and hydropower plants, as one of the most important power plants for energy production, play a very important role in the stability of the national electricity network of any country. One of the important issues in the management of hydropower projects is the selection of the appropriate mechanism to provide financial resources. In this paper, the PPP method has been examined due to its abundant benefits. In Iran, due to various reasons such as lack of economic stability and dynamism, high inflation rate, economic sanctions, as well as inappropriate management and organization, so far limited projects have been implemented with this method. Here, the information of the existing hydroelectric projects that have been implemented and put into operation with the PPP method have been reviewed along with the forecast of this trend in the coming years. In addition, a case study of the financial model of Golpayegan HPP and the possibility of entering the private sector for its implementation is also given, indicating that with the existing policies and conditions in the country, the PPP mechanism and using the potential of the private sector would not be possible
